“Truth Bus” (the film) grew out of the “March on Ottawa 2008″, which marked the seventh anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the Pentagon in Washington and the Twin Towers in New York city. We met up with activists from all over the country on the steps of the Canadian Parliament to deliver a petition of 5000 names. Unfortunately, parliament had just dissolved and the politicians were already on the campaign trail.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that another two years have passed. Things are happening so quickly these days.

Today we mark the ninth anniversary of that fateful day. Our demand for a Canadian-led independent investigation stands firm, but we are not content to sit idly by, waiting for our government to acknowledge the laws of physics.

As a society, we are still living a lie. That lie will continue to fester, to corrode us from the inside out until collectively, we muster the courage to confront it.

It will happen.

By asking Canadians what kind future is possible, “Truth Bus” is a brave plunge towards dreaming up a peaceful post 9/11 truth future.

7 / 7

In Japan, July 7 is celebrated as the Tanabata festival. The Japanese commemorate the forbidden love between a cowherd and a princess.

These days, I remember July 7 as the day that three subway stations and one double decker bus blew up in London. Incredibly, a private security company “Visor Consultants” was rehearsing a terror simulation exercise that very morning which featured bombs going off at the same three tube stations.

Clearly something is amiss, but as with 9/11, our big problem once again is A TOTAL LACK OF CURIOSITY. Nobody seems overly interested in finding out how such a bizarre coincidence could occur!

One day I asked Livo about this because he’s actually from England. This interview is not in final cut but you can see it here now.

The infamous 7/7 bombings present a huge can of worms, fully deserving of their own documentary tour. Someone should create a Truth Bus in England. It would be interesting to find out if this day lives on in people’s minds, or if everyone has simply moved on.

A Different Kind of Truth Doc

When you say to someone: “9/11 was an inside job” one of the first things you are likely to hear is:

Well if the official story is false, then what do you think happened?

This question misses the point, which is precisely that we don’t know what happened. All we can say for certain is that the official story defies reason.

Contrary to what many believe about “conspiracy theorists”, the 9/11 truth movement makes no claims about 9/11. We are not about advancing any particular theory or about connecting the dots. We want a proper investigation. We believe that given a reasonably funded impartial, international investigation, the dots will begin to connect themselves.

The truth, whatever it is, can and must see the light of day.

Watching a clip like “Exposing Freemasons” (which did not make the final cut), one can be forgiven for assuming that Truth Bus is about freemasons or illuminati or aliens or lizard people. Truth Bus isn’t about any of these things. Truth Bus is about the Truth Movement and about the people who drive it. Truth Bus is about Canadians and their thoughts about September 11, 2001.

We don’t claim to know what happened and we’re not peddling any theories. We are holding a mirror. The Canada that we see reflected here is overwhelmingly ready for a true investigation into this catalyzing event. Twenty-four Canadians died that day and now, nine years later, we are still at war.

Canadians want truth and accountability!

Truth Bus is not like any other film about 9/11. Truth Bus isn’t trying to sell you anything or convince you of anything or tell you what to think. Truth Bus is going to inspire us to think for ourselves just a little bit more than we have been. What separates Truth Bus from other films about 9/11 is that it is aimed at a different demographic. This is not a film for “truthers” (though we more than welcome your support).

Truth Bus is for everybody.

Hop on.

I don’t like the word “infowars”. Life is a self-fulling prophesy and if you frame something as a war, then war is what you get.

Language matters.

I understand that for many people, 9/11 is an “us vs. them” issue. I’m not one of those people. As far as I’m concerned, there’s only “us” and a war is something that you fight against yourself.

This is why I like to think of 9/11 truth in terms of human consciousness evolution. 9/11 should have been a wakeup call just like the disaster in the Gulf is sending an urgent message to us all. We are being pushed to look critically at the kind of society we’ve created. Surely there’s a better way to live on this planet.

“Infowars” sounds like a propaganda battle to me – a battle of ideologies. But the sad truth is that the “info” is long out there. The question now is – what lies in our hearts?

Yesterday I met with my MP. Some people might think that this kind of activism has little effect. The investigation into 9/11 is now nine years overdue and our elected representatives are still not stepping up. But I look at it differently. Sooner rather than later there will come a day when a Canadian MP takes that crucial first step – talking about 9/11 in the House of Commons. Someone has to be the one to break the ice.

It’s all a matter of timing. Human consciousness evolution.

Two years ago we drove across Canada, talking to people about 9/11. In a way, we were taking the pulse of the nation, with respect to this very important topic. And now that the film is nearly done, were ready to reflect that vision back to Canadians.

But the world hasn’t stood still in the past two years. The Gulf of Mexico is awash in oil and very few seem ready to admit how urgent this matter is. So on some level we are still in denial.

On the other hand, it is clear that people are angry on many levels. In Toronto we’ve just witnessed the G20 riots and the police crackdown. People are sensing that under this current Conservative regime, democracy in Canada has hit an all-time low.

Happy Canada Day

Truth Bus will premiere soon (when or where we don’t know) and parliament will resume in September. And somewhere, waiting in the wings, there is a couragous MP who will be the one to confront the lies head on.

Looking back on this adventure, two years down the road, I’d like to call these memories fond. But there were also uncomfortable moments.

The tour got off on the wrong foot with a series of dramas and personality clashes that would have made for great reality television. But that’s not what we were after and for the first two days there was nothing I could film and the things I did film were not suitable for a general audience. Throw a little bit of heavy drinking into the mix, and I quickly found myself wondering what I was doing there at all.

Ten people crammed inside a small bus – and that was only day two of a four week stint! I would have been happy to make a disaster film, but there was something greater we wanted to accomplish. It appeared we were headed in the opposite direction.

Then came Nelson and something shifted. Conspirituality gave a great street performance for which we had no permit, and we were never hassled! We had a generator going and a big amplifier. The police cruised buy but never approached us – in fact, we were the ones to walk over and say hello.

Such a place is Nelson, British Columbia.

One of the things we did on the tour was to sit people down inside the bus and show video clips. One little girl came on the bus but then started to cry. Turns that she thought we were going to take to school.

Ironically, though this was only day three, Nelson was practically the end of the road for Conspirituality. They were able to perform one more time in Winnipeg, but all other scheduled events were missed until we finally reached Montréal. The tour fell behind and we found ourselves unable to keep up with an impossibly tight schedule.

By the way – if any of you find this clip familiar it’s because it has been featured before. While on the tour, I did my best to provide daily video updates. This clip was edited on the road and featured on the original March on Ottawa Blog which no longer exists.

More outtakes:

Two people who aren’t featured enough in the film are Tony and Mikael. Their contribution was huge, but because they spent most of their time in the support vehicle, they were not always around to be filmed.

Here’s a clip that has been updated to include a very nice interview that Tony gave in Montréal – courtesy of Patrick Biron who interviewed a lot of people.

The girl that Mathieu is talking to at the beginning of this clip is terribly cute, but I couldn’t use her in the film because the shot is out of focus. Very annoying.

Thank you Tony for sharing your truth.

Surreal Times

We are living in surreal times.

AIG received a massive bailout and now the bosses have paid themselves huge bonuses!

The banks have managed to defraud the taxpayer out of billions of dollars, but rather than putting the money back into the economy, the bankers simply paid themselves and foreclosures and layoffs continue.

And now, even poor beleaguered Larry Silverstein is looking for handouts.

These stories seem so over the top. It’s hard to believe that human greed can reach such massive proportions. Is this satire?

There are two possibilities. Either there is a higher reason for this excess, this extreme polarity, or there is not.

Here’s where I sometimes find myself at odds with the truth movement. Unlike many people in the movement, I am not convinced that we can call the economic meltdown a “bad” thing. I am not sure that there is much to our brand of capitalism that is worth saving. We have to find a way to do things differently.

Completely differently.

I’m not sure exactly what the alternatives are, but I have pondered it extensively.

You can’t eat money.

The end of money?

The irony is that excessive greed has undone the very system that lent these gangster bankers all their power in the first place. If they could have curtailed their greed by a small fraction, this sad state of affairs might have gone on for a long time (as long as the planet allowed, anyway) – but as things stand, it appears that we are heading into the great unknown.

Who has the most to gain? Who has the most to lose?

In Sudbury, on the way back home, we interviewed Craig in front of the Big Nickel. It was pouring rain and the Big Nickel was out of our way, but this was one instance where I got what I asked for.

(I wanted to hit as many of Canada’s big monuments as possible – and one of my favourite scenes in the entire film was shot later in front of the giant teepee in Medicine Hat.)

This is the one interview in the film which doesn’t mention 9/11 directly. Of course that’s where the conversation started, but Craig had no real opinion on the subject.

Instead we ended up speaking about money. Sudbury generates a lot of wealth, but where does all that money actually go? This was the question Craig was asking himself.

Well, prophetically, two days after this was shot, the economy imploded (September 2008).

At first, the relationship between money and 9/11 is not really clear to people. Unless you’ve been studying the issue of fiat currency (money created out of debt), you are unlikely to be aware of how intertwined these things are.

For the uninitiated, a highly recommended film is “Money as Debt” .

Naturally, I would have liked to tie as many strands together as possible, and to explore this angle more deeply in the film. But by now we were homeward bound, and there was just no way to deal with that can of worms. So the financial underpinnings of 9/11 are only alluded to.

Anyway, there’s a feelgood ending to this story. Like everyone else we encountered on this trip, Craig was given a bunch of DVD’s to watch. Well, he watched them, and they had an effect. Here’s the email we received from Craig:

“Hello, long time no see…i’m the guy you interviewed in front of the BIG NICKEL in Sudbury, On. i just wanted to say that you guys did a great job on the trailer i saw on your web site and i want want to see more! You guys gave me 2 movies to watch after the interview was finished and well…i wish i saw them before the interview because my views on what happened are much clearer and stronger than ever about the tragic loss in 911, i really feel that what you guys are doing is not only GREAT, but HEROIC AT THE LEAST! If you guys come back this way to Sudbury or even within a couple hour drive i would like to show my appreciation for the eye opening facts that i never would have known if it wasn’t for you guys…i’ll take you all out for dinner nex time for sure just to talk more about this and i hope you take me up on this offer as my way to say thank you! if you guys need shelter in Sudbury let me know and consider it done…thanks again yours truly,
Craig”

Incidentally, on September 11, 2001 I was actually in Sudbury. I was working on a no-budget documentary about a cross- Canada tour (the film is called “On Wings Like Eagles”) and we were on our way back home. Talk about deja-vu!

Here’s another scene that didn’t make it into the film.

Art appreciation with Livo.
